If you have a gas pack to heat your home, ensure that
it is checked / inspected regularly. At least 2 home owners in CL who
have or had a RUDD gas pack, found that when the HEAT EXCHANGER was
removed for inspection, it was pitted and full of holes. This
potentially permits carbon monoxide to enter the air system in your home
! In one case , it was only due to the fact that the resident had
an annual service contract and the dangerous situation was caught by the
service technician. In the other case, the resident just decided to have
the unit checked. It was so bad that under NC State regulations, he
could not turn the unit back on until all repairs had been completed
! The units in question were RUDD gas packs installed about 5- 7 years
ago. Simply put, if you have a gas pack - whatever manufacturer, have it
inspected regularly by a qualified technician. Do not forget
to also install a Carbon Monoxide detector!!!
