SHORE POWER CABLES

It has been noted that some boat owners have left the circuit breaker in the power pedestals in the  “ON” position, with shore power cables adrift on the finger docks.  This is a serious and potential danger for the owner and others who might be in the area.

The proper procedure for connecting and disconnecting power cables to the pedestal and to your boat is as follows:

TO CONNECT
1.      Ensure that the circuit breaker is “OFF” on the pedestal and that the AC power switch is “OFF” on your boat.
2.      Connect the shore power cable to the pedestal and then to your boat
3.      Turn the pedestal circuit breaker “ON”.
4.      Turn the AC power switch in your boat “ON”. Check for polarity.

TO DISCONNECT
1        Turn the AC power switch on your boat “OFF”
2        Turn the  circuit breaker in the power pedestal to “OFF”
3        Disconnect power cable from your boat and coil it on the pedestal hangar, or remove and store on your boat.

The above procedures will prevent arcing at the receptacles and the likelihood of electrical shock.
