Mary Jean Peters reporting for Holly Cook, Chairman
First I would like to thank those committee members who have given
their time to the Art Committee this year: Chair, Holly Cook,
Secretary Mary Elaine Kavanagh, Sharon Bachman, Pat Carlson, Barbara
Geesey, Shirley Hanberry, Mary Ellen Hulcher, Mary Knobelspiesse, Bev
Lasher, MJ Peters and Lynda Lane, and our liaison from the HOA Board,
Helen Sommerkamp. There have been others who have volunteered for
our special events and they are most appreciated.
I would also like to give special recognition to Jack Kavanah and Gerry
Germann, whose pictures of local interest are now hanging in the
Washington Room at the Bay Club. A call went out to all residents
this year to submit photography to the Art Committee and the work of
these two photographers was selected. Please be sure to enjoy the
pictures when you go through or attend meetings in that room.
We are now displaying one piece of art work, each month by a resident of
our community. This art is being displayed on an easel made
especially for us by Dick Lasher. I’m sure you have seen this in
the Bay Club entrance. Barbara Geesey was our first artist and
Mary Ellen Hulcher is displaying art work this month. MJ Peters
will display one of her fine art photographs during October. We
hope that anyone wishing to display a work of art will sign up with the
Art Committee. There will be a sign up sheet beside the Art
Committee sign up sheet today or please feel free to call Holly Cook,
Chairman of the Art Committee.
We have decided to have the Resident Artisan’s Show every other year
and, in place of that this year, we are presenting three area artists on
Nov. 4 in the Bay Club from 1-4 pm. These artists are Linda Boyer,
Pat Boyde and Dodi and John Grossner. Please come meet the
artists, admire their work and enjoy refreshments.
Continuing our “pursuing culture in art” we are planning the Artisans’
Show for 2008, and trips to special art show cases in Raleigh and
Greenville in the spring and fall of next year.
We have discussed during the past year, and will continue to research
and make plans in the coming year, the possibility of having a special
sculpture created for the new garden/public area on Cypress Landing
Trail. We will contact the artist who has created the sculptures
for the Estuarium to see if he will work with us and create a piece that
is sensitive to our local environment and can become a part of the
garden that the Buildings and Grounds and Master Gardeners are creating.
The Art Committee is open to any comments and suggestions related to
this.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jean Peters for Holly Cook, Chairman
